Job Summary:

An HR Generalist I performs entry-level human resource work of a limited complexity requiring some knowledge of a number of areas in the field. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where there are no uncomfortable or hazardous working conditions. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Minimum Qualifications:

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

AND

Experience: Have one year of experience in human resource administration.

OR

Equivalency: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience. One year of graduate course work in human resource administration, business administration or public policy from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the experience requirement.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of human resource administration.
  • Ability to interview, select and place job applicants.
  • Ability to interpret and implement human resource policies and procedures.

  • Ability to compile data and prepare statistical and narrative reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, management and the public.
  • Ability to maintain human resources records.

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

Probation

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.

Eligibility

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

Education Accreditation
