The Baltimore County Office of Law is seeking high school student interns.

The main purpose of this internship is to provide high school students with opportunities to apply the topics and concepts they have learned in pursuit of their diploma. This will also allow them to develop additional skills they can apply in future employment.

Examples of Duties

The selected interns will be assigned to the Baltimore County Office of Law. This is an unpaid year-round internship. Parking will not be reimbursed.

The selected interns will:

  • Open, date stamp, and distribute incoming mail to appropriate staff
  • Track the handling of correspondence and/or written complaints to the time of completion
  • Draft, file, and edit documents
  • Data processing entry
  • Review case information and case histories
  • Monitors and responds to email inquiries
  • Provides backup to other case management positions
  • Greets and directs clients and visitors
  • Responds to inquiries of a routine nature regarding County, department, and/or program policies in person, by telephone, or by regular or electronic mail
  • Collects information regarding more complex inquiries and refers to appropriate staff for follow-up as necessary
  • Establishes and maintains confidential alphabetical, chronological, or subject matter files and records
  • Locates, extracts, and summarizes information from files for preparation of reports or to respond to inquiries, routine requests, or complaints
  • Performs other assigned duties or tasks as required

Qualifications

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must live and attend high school in Baltimore County
  • Must be a high school student in their junior or senior year with approval from their school's administration
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must have a Maryland Identification or School Identification Photo
  • Must attach your current report card and school ID to your application to apply for this internship
  • Must be able to work up to 10 hours per week between Monday through Friday
  • Students 14 to 17 years old must apply for a Work Permit to work in the State of Maryland
  • Student ages 18 and over will be required to complete a fingerprint background check
  • Students 16 and 17 years of age:
    • May not spend more than 12 hours in a combination of school hours and work hours each day
    • Must be allowed at least 8 consecutive hours of non-work, non-school time in each 24-hour period
    • May not be permitted to work more than 5 consecutive hours without a non-working period of at least 30 minutes

Employment Background Investigation
Applicants over the age of 18 years selected for an internship with Baltimore County must successfully complete an employment investigation, including, but not limited to, criminal background and fingerprinting checks and a drug screen.
