Located in downtown Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, the Towson University Center for STEM Excellence (TUCSE) advances Maryland K–12 STEM education through hands-on student learning, teacher professional development, and statewide equipment-loan programs. The TU Center for STEM Excellence seeks an Education & Outreach Coordinator to deliver engaging, hands-on STEM learning and keep our programs running smoothly.
Serve as lead and co-instructor for classes (grades 3-12) attending field trip experiences at the TU Center for STEM Excellence; educate hands-on STEM field trips (grades 3–12) at the SciTech Student Learning Lab.
Provide support to equipment loan programs including packing, sending, receiving and re- stocking instructional kits.
Support department staff with administrative and logistics tasks and special event activities. This may include processing reservation requests, maintaining and organizing program files and supporting general administrative tasks (e.g. documentation and reports) for grant-funded projects, as well as representing TUCSE at special events (e.g. open houses and tabling opportunities)
Update and revise curriculum materials for student programming.
Support material management and lab set-up/take-down for field trip experiences.
The work hours for this position will include occasional evenings and weekend hours.
Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in STEM CS or Education
One year of experience working with K–12 student population
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, OneDrive, Google Suite, Zoom, and similar platforms.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail
Highly adaptable, patient, and a growth-orientated mindset
Ability to read, write and follow instructions.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency utilizing interactive educational tools (e.g. Pear Deck, Nearpod)
Demonstrated experience teaching or facilitating learning in formal or informal settings (e.g., classrooms, camps, museums, outreach programs)
Experience supporting program logistics or event coordination with K-12 students
Familiarity with hands-on, inquiry-based STEM instruction
Basic knowledge of STEM lab tools or techniques
$20.00-$25.00 per hour and a contract that offers annual leave, holidays, and sick days. Contractual employees scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage. The position is contingent on funds being available at time of hire.
